Ending Furniture Poverty: How Interior Designer Tee Plans to Fundraise and Raise Awareness
Many people, especially children, suffer from furniture poverty. It can adversely affect their overall well-being and development. In an effort to combat furniture poverty, Tricia Tee Alampi, who goes by Tee, is raising awareness about the issue and finding solutions to alleviate it.
After obtaining her Ph.D. and spending several years as an entrepreneur and educator, Tricia Tee Alampi decided to pursue an unconventional path to interior design. A non-profit foundation to address home insecurity was her dream, so she decided to pursue her passion for interior design and making a difference. Tee Alampi also serves as an executive director of Build Homes Foundation, an emerging non-profit foundation whose mission is to revitalize communities and address the affordable housing crisis.
What is Furniture Poverty?
Furniture poverty refers to the lack of essential household items such as beds, tables, and chairs, which are crucial for daily living. For children, not having a proper bed can lead to poor sleep quality, affecting their physical health and academic performance. Similarly, the absence of a study table can hinder their ability to concentrate on homework and other educational activities, thereby impeding their overall development.
Tee has also been raising awareness about furniture poverty. She has spoken at various events, highlighting the importance of having a well-furnished home and the effect it can have on a child’s life. Her advocacy has not only brought attention to this issue but also inspired others to take action.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Tee aspires to expand her outreach by partnering with schools and community organizations to identify families in need and provide them with essential furniture. She also aims to launch a nationwide campaign to educate the public about furniture poverty and mobilize resources for sustainable solutions. Tee’s ultimate goal is to ensure that every child has access to a well-furnished home, fostering a supportive environment for their growth and development.
